Legend Overview
Introduction
The Orange-collared Manakin forms a superspecies with the other four members of the genus Manacus. Males of all four share black caps and wings that contrast with pale underparts. The Orange-collared has orange-yellow underparts, while the other species are paler yellow or white. The female is green overall with yellowish underparts, and closely resembles females of many other manakin species. This species occurs in the understory of humid forest on the Pacific slope of southwestern Costa Rica and western Panama. They feed on fruits and small arthropods captured in aerial sallies. Males give whistled calls and wing snaps while jumping between bare stems in display courts on the ground.
