Palawan Spiderhunter (Arachnothera dilutior)

French: Arachnothère pâle German: Palawanspinnenjäger Spanish: Arañero de Palawan

Arachnothera dilutior

, 1876,

Until recently considered conspecific with A. longirostra and A. flammifera, but split indicated by genetic analysis#R#R. Differs from former in its shorter but also deeper and seemingly darker bill (effect size vs A. l. buettikoferi –2.45, score 2); longer tail (effect size 2.49, score 2); dark vs whitish lores and distinct dark moustachial stripe (3); bold yellow eyering (3); pale grey vs bright pale yellow breast to vent (3); pale grey vs whitish throat (ns[2]); and stronger yellow edges on secondaries (ns[1]). Differs from A. flammifera (comparing larger A. f. randi) in its larger overall size, with longer, thicker bill (vs nominate flammifera effect size 9.1, score 3; race randi larger but n=2); longer tail (effect size 6.6, score 3, although randi larger) blackish vs grey lores and distinct dark moustachial line (2); bold yellow eyering (3); and grey vs yellow belly (3). Monotypic.
