Introduction
The Puerto Rican Tanager is a medium sized bird from the mountain forests of the island. It is the only representative from the genus Nesospingus, making it truly endemic. The body plumage is mostly olive brown, with white underparts and a conspicuous white wing spot. The Puerto Rican Tanager is a noisy bird that often is the nucleus of mixed species flocks. Its local name is "llorosa", which means "cryer", perhaps because of the loud vocalizations of this tanager suggest it is under some kind of stress.
