Probably closest to extant F. punctatus of Mauritius, one of the members of the F. tinnunculus group. Monotypic.

Distribution:

Reunion I. Known only from subfossil bones.

The only historical record of small falcons is of the “émerillons” reported in 1671–1672. Probably became extinct through human persecution.
