Sometimes placed in genus Mascarenachen. Closely related to †A. mauritiana, both species being close to A. aegyptiaca#R. Monotypic.

Distribution:

Reunion. Known only from subfossil bones#R.

Extinct probably since late 17th century#R. Cause apparently excessive hunting.
