Streak-fronted Thornbird (Phacellodomus striaticeps)

Taxonomy

Taxonomy:

Anumbius striaticeps

d’Orbigny and Lafresnaye

Sister to P. sibilatrix, based on phylogenetic study#R. Remarkable resemblance in plumage to Asthenes dorbignyi presumed due to convergence. Description of proposed darker race griseipectus from Cuzco (Peru) is matched by specimens from near city of La Paz (Bolivia), not far from type locality of nominate; in addition, populations from Puno apparently differ from those in Apurímac and Cuzco; further study required, particularly examination of the types. Two subspecies tentatively recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution

  • P. s. striaticeps (d’Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1838) – Andes of Bolivia (S from La Paz) and N Argentina (S to Catamarca and Tucumán).
