Nominate race previously treated as conspecific with A. modesta; everetti then regarded as a separate, montane species, and case again now made for this on grounds of paraphyly, being more closely related to A. modesta than to nominate#R; but larger size only a medium difference while plumage differences trivial (insufficient evidence for vocal comparison), and evidence of occurrence of nominate as a mountain form in Java and Bali suggests conspecificity of everetti with affinis and separation from lowland taxa (now combined in A. modesta). Proposed race pars, described from R Birang (N Kalimantan), in Borneo, considered inseparable from everetti. Two subspecies currently recognized.
