Recent molecular work has shown that this taxon and G. acutirostris, both previously included in G. difficilis (which see), are not sisters to each other or to difficilis, so that each requires species status#R#R. Monotypic.

Distribution:

Darwin and Wolf, in extreme NW Galapagos Is.
