Calyptophilus frugivorus tertius
higher slopes of Morne La Hotte, Haiti.
Often treated as conspecific with C. frugivorus, and despite molecular findings#R#R and morphological evidence this may still be appropriate, but differences appear to be strong, involving larger size with much longer tail (allow 2); lack of yellow eyering (3); darker, greyer upperparts (at least 1); and darker, chestnut-tinged chocolate tail (1); concerted study of all taxa needed. Proposed race selleanus (described from Morne Malanga, Haiti) long considered a synonym of tertius (not of C. f. frugivorus as stated in HBW), but re-appraisal of its validity potentially required#R#R. Monotypic.
SW Haiti (Massif de la Hotte and Massif de la Selle) and adjacent SW Dominican Republic (Sierra de Bahoruco).
