Quito, Ecuador = west side of Pichincha, at 6000 feet [c. 1830 m].
Usually considered conspecific with S. geoffroyi, but differs in its larger, brighter green throat patch including forehead (latter dull in other taxa) (3); white of lower neck sides joining across breast (ns); breast to vent all shiny bottle-green vs paler green shading to white on vent (ns); very short vs rather long white postocular line (ns); green vs bronzy-brown back to uppertail-coverts (3); blue-green vs yellowy-green uppertail (ns); no narrow white tips on tail (ns[1, perhaps 2]); female with all-white throat (3); slightly longer bill (based on visual comparison of specimens) (no score attempted). Type specimen of proposed S. geoffroyi race bolivianus (Bolivia) does not match existing population of Bolivia, and may be an artefact of geoffroyi and albogularis. Monotypic.
