Yellow-browed Shrike-vireo (Vireolanius eximius)

Taxonomy

French: Smaragdan à sourcils jaunes German: Gelbbrauenvireo Spanish: Vireón cejiamarillo
Taxonomy:

Vireolanius eximius

S. F. Baird

, 1866,

“Bogotá”

.

Often treated as conspecific with V. pulchellus, but differs in its bold yellow vs bright green supercilium (3); narrow black loral line from bill to eye (2); greenish-yellow vs yellowish-green breast to vent, and slightly less intense yellow on throat, resulting in little contrast between throat and breast (2); moreover, no intergrades known where ranges approach each other in E Panama. See also V. leucotis (below). Poorly known race mutabilis (described from female specimen) not always recognized, as differences are slight. Two subspecies recognized.
